They had exit papers. They had visas. They had every reason the world would have accepted.

They stayed anyway.

Gaza's doctors, nurses, paramedics, and medical students didn't just do their jobs under bombardment — they became the last functioning institution in a place the world stopped functioning for. They performed surgery by phone light. They triaged in hallways when the wards were rubble. They slept at the hospital because there was no home to go back to. Some treated their own children on the gurneys. Some never made it home at all.

The figures on this shirt are faceless because there were too many of them — and because the ones we did learn to name (Hussam Abu Safiya. Adnan Al-Bursh. The ones taken during the raids on Al-Shifa and Kamal Adwan.) we learned only after. The keffiyeh over the lab coat says they were not neutral about being human. The Palestinian flag pin says they were not neutral about being Palestinian.

"THEY STAYED" sits over the heart, where a name tag would go. Because that was their name. That was the credential.
