About the Maker

Olive Wood Cutting Board — Hand-Carved in Bethlehem

In Bethlehem, the Giacaman family has been carving olive wood since 1925. This board is one of theirs — cut from a single piece, sanded by hand until the grain reads like a map.

Olive wood never repeats itself. The swirling grain, the honey-and-amber shift from one end to the other, the small differences between boards — that is the tree's own record, not a flaw.

Olive is a dense hardwood. It resists odors, stains and moisture, which is why it has been the kitchen wood of this region for centuries. Use it as a wooden cutting board for bread and vegetables, or as a cheese board and charcuterie serving board when people come over.

The wood comes from pruned branches and aged trees — the tree keeps standing.

The olive tree is the oldest argument for staying. This carries that argument onto your counter.

Blessings Giftshop – Handcrafted Olive Wood Treasures from Bethlehem

At Rajaeen, we are honored to feature the handmade creations of Blessings Giftshop, a family-owned workshop in Bethlehem, Palestine. For nearly a century, this workshop has been preserving one of the Holy Land’s most meaningful traditions: hand-carved olive wood art.

A Legacy Rooted in Bethlehem

Blessings Giftshop, also known as The Olive Wood Factory, was established in 1925 by Elias Giacaman, a skilled craftsman whose legacy continues today through his son Jiries and grandson Bassem. Three generations later, the Giacaman family still works in Bethlehem—just steps away from the Church of the Nativity and the Milk Grotto Church—carrying forward the sacred tradition of olive wood carving.

Supporting the Local Economy

Every piece from Blessings Giftshop is handmade in Bethlehem, supporting Palestinian artisans and their families. By choosing their work, you are helping sustain local craftsmanship, preserve cultural heritage, and strengthen the Palestinian economy at a time when many families face difficult challenges.

The Meaning of Olive Wood

The olive tree has been central to life in Palestine for thousands of years. Pruned only after 150 years of growth, its wood carries a history as deep and enduring as the land itself. From this sacred material, Blessings Giftshop artisans create beautiful carvings—ranging from rosaries to nativity scenes—each piece symbolizing peace, resilience, and faith.

More Than a Craft

What sets Blessings Giftshop apart is not just their artistry, but their deep connection to the land and their community. Visitors to their Bethlehem workshop can watch olive wood being dried naturally, carved by skilled hands, and transformed into lasting keepsakes. Every purchase directly sustains this heritage and keeps alive a tradition that has endured despite wars, walls, and hardships.

By purchasing Blessings Giftshop products, you’re not just buying a handmade item—you’re supporting Palestinian artisans, preserving Bethlehem’s heritage, and carrying home a piece of the Holy Land.
