About Sara:
Sara Awashra is a 22-year-old Palestinian artist from the village of Sinjil, near Ramallah. She graduated with a degree in Contemporary Visual Arts from Birzeit University in July 2024. Sara has always been passionate about art in all its forms, a journey that began in her childhood when she would draw the nature around her, transforming those scenes into paintings that adorned the walls of her home.
Sara enjoys exploring various types of art, including drawing, photography, video, animation, sculpture, and embroidery. Over time, her focus has shifted towards depicting the Palestinian landscape and village life, with a particular emphasis on preserving cultural heritage. Her art often reflects the realities of Palestinian life under occupation, illustrating how these circumstances impact every detail of daily life and hinder the fulfillment of dreams. In many of her works, Sara uses vibrant and joyful colors to show the beautiful side of Palestine, reminding the world that Palestinians are a people who love life and deserve to live it fully.
Sara's Journey and Artistic Vision:
During her four-year journey studying Contemporary Visual Arts at Birzeit University, Sara's passion for art grew, and her dreams expanded. She learned about various forms of art and developed an interest in connecting traditional art with contemporary practices. Sara honed her skills in clay and ceramic sculpture, glazing techniques, and mastered various drawing methods, including pencil, ink, acrylics, and watercolors. She also delved into photography under the guidance of artist Rula Halawani, learning film and photo development techniques.
Sara aspires to be a contemporary Palestinian artist recognized globally. Her future goals include pursuing a master's degree in animation. Despite the continuous attempts by the occupation to restrict their lives, Sara is determined to chase her dreams.
